perseverance (December 10, 2006)
Perseverance has a noble place in human history, and it engages people
to go beyond the imaginable. However, perseverance cannot be
manufactured in the mind, nor can it be instructed to occur. Absolute
perseverance is willing your being to happen when conformity would allow
one to stop.
The mind actually prevents perseverance in my experiences. The mind
justifies, argues, and coerces the body to stop the consistent daily action
towards living a life one wants to live. The sharp edges are stopping
points at which the mind decides that the effort is not worth an outcome
which is not known. The decision-points that mask the real issue that one
may put maximum effort into something that may lead to the knowing one
is not good enough.
The problem with the mind is that it limits or quantifies maximum effort.
When the feeling exists that one is willing it to happen then maximum does
not exist. Maximum is a ceiling that is a figment of the imagination.
Reflective expressionism allows feeling to overcome the mind allowing
imagined internal barriers to disappear making everything inside become
a clear vision of where one wants to go. That is perseverance to me.
